World Athletics Championships Betting Tips
We will present you the World Athletics Championships betting tips that catch our eye in the build up to the event. Check out our selections and use them to develop a betting strategy for the championships.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen to win the 5000m
Jakob Ingebrigtsen has consistently been the best runner in the world, over 1500m to 5000m, over the last few years. The 3000m world record holder has sometimes been found wanting in tactical races over 1500m at championships. But, with his 1500m speed, Ingebrigtsen has proved that he can win 5000m races off any pace. We think he will bag another 5k gold in Tokyo.
George Mills to win a medal over 1500m
British middle-distance athletes have rolled back the years in recent times with some great performances over 1500m on the global stage. Jakob Ingebrigtsen has found both Jake Wightman and Josh Kerr to be major thorns in his side recently. We are tipping George Mills to get on the podium. Mills has run some seriously fast times this summer, has tactical nous and often gets it right on the big occasion. We think he will sneak onto the podium ahead of faster athletes on paper.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone to win 400m hurdles
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is one of the few athletes able to handle Femke Bol. Both athletes are worthy of being champions, but we feel that it will be the American who will come out on top.
Kishane Thompson to win 100m
The 100m is always one of the most keenly anticipated events, and we are backing Kishane Thompson this year. The Jamaican is in blistering form and looks to be the man to beat.
Eleanor Patterson to medal in the high jump
The Australian has been incredibly consistent on the world stage over the recent years. We are tipping Patterson to bag another medal.
Most Popular World Athletics Championships Betting Markets
Athletics betting comes to life during the major championships and there are several interesting athletics markets for World Championships betting. We have the lowdown on the most popular.
This market is self-explanatory. You simply bet on the athlete you think will win the event in question. For example, you would bet on the winner of the men’s 100m.
Here, you can bet on an athlete to come through the heats and make the final. You can also bet on the race winner in individual heats for track events.
You can bet on an athlete to win a medal in an event. So, if they finish in the first three, your bet will win.
You can back an athlete each-way. This means the bet is divided in two parts. One part is for the athlete to win, the second part of them is to place, which, in athletics, means the first three.
Here, the bookmaker will provide head-to-head markets on selected athletes. Simply choose the athlete you think will come in first out of the two selected. It doesn’t matter where they finish in the race overall, only the result between the two selected athletes matters for your bet.
You can bet on which nation will finish top of the medal table. Remember that the medal table is determined on the number of gold medals won. Silver and bronze medals only come into play in the event of a tie.
Matchups: Great value if you have done your research!
Chris Sampson: I find matchups to be one of the best value markets for athletics betting, and this is surely the case in the World Championships. Through studying other important races throughout the season, especially the Diamond League, and through looking at statistics, you get a sense of which athletes thrive under certain conditions and can make an informed pick on who will come out on top. When you have lots of world class athletes together, picking a winner between two is a simpler task than going for an outright winner. It is also easier to see when a bookie has undervalued an athlete, which allows you to get more value.
