Tuesday’s EFL Accumulator Tips
3rd in the table Wrexham host bottom-half Stevenage looking to claim 3 points in a bid to close the gap to the top-two. 1 win in 4 League One games has halted momentum slightly for the Welsh side, however they have faced the likes of Birmingham and Barnsley in that run. 2 defeats in this sequence also came away from home, but they are a completely different animal at STōK Cae Ras. Only 3 teams have left that stadium with any league points all season. Wrexham possess the best home record in the league, and by some distance. Only they and Birmingham are unbeaten at home in League One.
Stevenage are a stubborn opponent for any team to face. Only 2 teams, again, Birmingham and Wrexham, have conceded fewer goals than Alex Revell’s outfit. This is somewhat surprising given they are in the bottom-half. However, they are the lowest-scorers in the division, which explains their relatively lowly placing. This is a team with only 2 losses over their previous 11 in all competitions, beating the likes of Stockport and, on Saturday, Barnsley. They have quite a solid record versus top-six, winning 4 of those 6 season meetings. However, it is just so tough to back against Wrexham at home. This is another challenge completely, plus this is a 4th game in 10 days for some. Tiredness may become an issue.
The comments of Peterborough manager Darren Ferguson following their weekend 5-1 away defeat at Lincoln were quite telling. He really laid into his players, describing them as ‘the softest group of players he has ever had in his whole managerial career’. Also, he stated they had ‘no desire’ and that he was ‘embarrassed’ by the performance. On one hand, that could fire the team up, however it may also go the other way. This is a very young squad and is battling against relegation, Wigan might be rubbing their hands at the prospect of facing them on Tuesday night.
Saturday was the first time in league action that The Posh conceded 5 or more in any league clash all season. What has been a common theme is not keeping clean sheets. Incredibly, Ferguson’s side have a mere 1 league clean sheet all season. This is an obvious explanation for them sitting 2 places above the bottom-four and possessing the worst defensive record in League One.
A lack of consistency has been Wigan’s main issue all season long. They’ve returned 3 wins across their last 4 in all competitions, yet that included a home defeat to Burton Albion, who’re currently in the relegation zone. They resumed winning ways at the weekend when beating Bristol Rovers 2-0 at home to move them to within 4 points of the top-half. This team is not the greatest of scorers considering they’ve averaged just 1.00 goal per league clash. However, The Latics have only failed to score in 1 of their last 10 in league and cup, and that was when losing to top of the table Birmingham earlier this month. They really should be netting against a very leaky and unconfident Peterborough team.
No Andy Cook, no problem for Bradford. There was concern that the injury to Bradford’s talisman forward would curb The Bantams promotion ambitions for this season but the opposite is playing out and Bradford have elevated themselves into the playoff places.
Since Christmas Bradford have gone unbeaten. They ended 2024 with 2-1 wins over Port Vale and Chesterfield and then kicked off the new year with a 2-2 draw at Barrow. They went on to achieve 3-1 wins over first Grimsby and then Aston Villa’s academy team in the EFL Trophy. They come into Tuesday match versus Morecambe off the back of 2 win-to-nil’s – 1-0 v Carlisle and an impressive 3-0 win versus runaway League Two leaders Walsall.
Bradford’s 13 points from their last possible 15 means they top the 5 game form table. They are 4th over the last 10 games and 3rd over the last 15.
Bradford should be too strong for a Morecambe side that sit bottom of the table.
Morecambe have problems both on and off the pitch. Ownership issues mean they’ll be no January reinforcements in the way of transfers and it’s down to the current batch of players to try and achieve an unlikely survival.
The Shrimps have lost their last 2 matches 1-0, to Crewe and Colchester. They created just 0.56 and 0.35xG in those 2 matches.
Bradford average 1.46xG v 1.1xG per game this season. Morecambe average 1.11xG v 1.73xG per game this season.
Bradford can maintain their promotion charge and hammer another blow to Morecambe’s survival chances.
Ian Holloway is doing a good job at Swindon. After 18 games they were rooted to the bottom of the division. Now, 10 games later they sit 18th in the table, 5 places and ten points above Carlisle in the relegation zone.
Swindon sit 6th in both the 10 game and 5 game form table. Their trajectory is upwards. Swindon come into Tuesday night’s fixture off the back of wins versus Barrow and Newport. Swindon have developed a clinical edge under Holloway with them maximising their chances.
Swindon’s recent home record is superb. Since the start of December at the County Ground they have beat Fleetwood and Grimsby 3-1, Colchester 3-2, drew with Crewe 0-0 and beat Barrow 2-0. Swindon have played 13 home League Two matches this season – 13 of their 18 home points have come in their last 5 matches.
Tranmere are the hunted team of League Two – the team most in danger of being caught by Carlisle and Morecambe in the relegation scrap. They currently have a 5 point buffer between themselves and the drop zone but their form is poor – just 4 points from their last 5 matches, 9 points from their last 10.
Tranmere have the lowest away points tally in League Two this season. Their record reads W2 D2 L9. Only Barrow (6) have scored fewer away goals than Tranmere (8). No team have conceded more away goals than the 28 Tranmere have conceded.
Tranmere have lost their last 7 away matches across all competitions and Swindon can take that number to 8 on Tuesday.
