Tottenham v Bournemouth
Kick Off: Sunday 9th March at 14:00
Competition: Premier League
What TV Channel: Sky Sports Main Event
Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham welcome Bournemouth to North London with one eye on their second leg round of 16 tie in the Europa League to come in midweek, having lost 1-0 in the first leg in the Netherlands. Given that Tottenham sit 13th in the Premier League with a minimal chance of finishing in the European positions, it’s possible that the Spurs boss looks to prioritise the Europa League fixture which could feed into his team selection here.
The picture is very different for Bournemouth and Andoni Iraola, the Cherries sit in 7th place just four points behind Manchester City in 4th. However, the race for Europe is tight with just five points separating Pep Guardiola’s side and Aston Villa in 10th making this a crucial game for Bournemouth if they want to stay within touching distance of the European places, especially given their recent form – Bournemouth are without a win in their last three games across all competitions.
Tottenham v Bournemouth Best Bet
Despite the inconsistencies that have been plaguing Tottenham this season, largely as a result of injuries, one area where they’ve stayed consistent is winning corners, especially in games at home. This is best illustrated by Tottenham’s recent defeat to Manchester City at home in which they managed to win the corner battle (8-3) despite a poor performance.
Tottenham have won more corners than any other side in the Premier League (202 – 7.48 per game), 34 more corners than their opponents here. The initial meeting between the sides at the Vitality Stadium was dominated by Bournemouth, the 1-0 win they managed was not reflective of the threat they caused Tottenham in the game in having more shots (21-12), shots on target (8-4) and big chances (7-1). However, despite this dominance – Tottenham still managed to win the corner battle (9-5).
Tottenham are averaging 8.29 corners per game at home in the Premier League this season, more than any other side in the division on home ground. They’re conceding 5.64 corners per game at home which is quite high, but Tottenham’s tendency to regularly post high numbers in this department should make up for the opportunities they give to the opposition in their own half.
Tottenham can’t really play any other way, they are always on the front foot and boast brilliant delivery from these corner situations through the likes of Pedro Porro and James Maddison.

Tottenham v Bournemouth Players to Watch
Justin Kluivert
Kluivert has been Bournemouth’s standout attacker this season as evidenced by the fact he’s registered more goal contributions than any other player in Andoni Iraola’s squad (17). Kluivert has had 27 shots on target across his 26 Premier League appearances this season, 22 of those have been starts, taking his average to 1.36 shots on target per 90. He’s on penalties for Bournemouth which could be crucial here, the Cherries have been awarded the joint-most spot kicks in the Premier League this season (seven). The initial meeting between these sides saw Kluivert find the target in a game in which Bournemouth managed 21 shots, eight of those attempts found the target. Tottenham have conceded five or more shots on target in each of their last five games across all competitions which should give Bournemouth opportunities in North London.

Destiny Udogie
Destiny Udogie’s return to Tottenham’s backline could be crucial in the latter stages of the season, the 22-year-old has won 33 fouls across his 20 Premier League appearances this season (1.89 per 90) and now faces up against one of the most aggressive pressing teams in the Premier League.
Andoni Iraola’s side are averaging 13.7 fouls committed per game in the Premier League this season, this record is a direct result of their energetic approach to games in which they look to squeeze up the pitch and win the ball back in dangerous areas before getting shots off as soon as possible. Bournemouth committed 15 fouls in the initial meeting between the sides despite dominating the majority of attacking metrics, whilst most sides commit fouls out of desperation or frustration, Bournemouth’s foul rate is a direct result of their style of play and puts Udogie right in their crosshairs as someone that already has a promising fouls won record.
