TIME Person of the Year Betting Tips

At a first glance, TIME Person of the Year betting may seem a little obscure, and you’d be forgiven for thinking that. But there’s a ton of value to be had if you know where to look. Luckily for you, we’ve done the donkey work and have three tips from the market that we feel have a strong chance of winning.

Info box icon

AI (Artificial Intelligence) – Even money

We can already hear the cries saying that AI isn’t even a person, and technically, it’s true, so it’s a little strange that it’s included. But here we are, folks, welcome to 2025. It’s not as far out as you might think, though. The #MeToo movement won in 2017, The Endangered Earth won in 1988, and even The Computer won in 1982.

Let’s face it, when it comes to technological advancements, we’ve not seen anything like AI since the internet. It’s going to change the world as we know it, for better or for worse. It’s odds for TIME Person of the Year are at even money, and outright favourites as a result. Few things have had a bigger impact in 2025 than AI, changing how we work, play, and live. The price is short, but it’s the pick that makes the most sense.

Donald Trump – 6/4 odds

He’s back again. You can’t keep Donald Trump away from TIME Person of the Year lists, as he looks set to become the second three-time winner of the award. He was re-elected to power in 2025 and, since then, has used his political influence to attempt to Make America Great Again (MAGA). But as the Leader of the Free World, he’s arguably the most powerful human being on earth, and his actions consistently dominate news headlines.

Like him or loathe him, Trump has pushed international policies, been proactive in trying to resolve Eastern European conflicts and implemented the highly controversial tariffs on countries that want to work with the US. From a betting perspective, it feels a little controversial to back Trump for a third time, but then, we said the same in 2016 and 2024 when he won, so if we’re talking pure value, 6/4 is probably a decent price.

Info box icon

Pope Leo XIV – 5/1 odds

Whenever there’s a new pope elected, they’re always going to be in the mix for TIME POY. The pope betting sites were electric when Leo was elected in June, and the sheer significance of the election means he will be in with a shout this year. They’ve historically done well in the markets, with John XXIII winning in 1962, John Paul II in 1994 and Pope Francis in 2013. Odds of 5/1 arguably look the best value out of the top three TIME Personality of the Year candidates, so he makes the grade as our third and final pick.

TIME Person of the Year markets are limited. In fact, you can only really bet on the winner as there are no runners-up for each-way or place bets.

That said, there are a series of other categories that are awarded at the ceremony, including Athlete of the Year, CEO of the Year, Community of the Year, Entertainer of the Year and Hero of the Year. From a betting perspective, these are niche and not many bookies run with them, but we have seen the likes of William Hill and Unibet cover them in the past, so there are options out there.

How to Bet on TIME Person of the Year

As soon as that TIME Person of the Year shortlist lands, you want to get in and start placing your bets. But the question is, how? Well, it’s super easy, and we’ve got a quick guide using our top-rated bookie for novelty bets, William Hill, to show exactly how it works.

What Is the TIME Person of the Year Award?

TIME Person of the Year has been around since 1927 and is an annual award ceremony that spotlights a person or group who has had the most significant influence on world events over the last 12 months. It’s incredibly prestigious and the winners are the who’s who of OG influencers (as the kids would say), including Winston Churchill, Queen Elizabeth II, John F. Kennedy, David Ho, Barack Obama and even Taylor Swift, believe it or not.

It’s not always people who have had a positive impact, either, with both Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin (twice!) picking up the award. But it has evolved, and we’ve shifted from brutal dictators to country music stars and TV personalities masquerading as Presidents.

TIME Magazine editors choose the winner. Generally, they have a shortlist and decide whose influence is worthy of the award. The freedom they have makes the winners so captivating, which is why it’s grown in popularity from a betting perspective.

Who Are the Current Nominees for TIME Person of the Year?

In our TIME Person of the Year tips above, we’ve covered some of the best value bets for this year’s events, but now we want to look a little deeper at some of the other influential people who are in the running.

Elon Musk

The controversial Tesla billionaire is once again up for the award after winning in 2021. It’s been a busy 12 months for Musk, mostly spent supporting Donald Trump on his latest crusade to take over the world, before then falling out and airing some interesting dirty laundry about each other on social media. That said, his work within the tech sector has been borderline genius with SpaceX and the introduction of AI (Grok) to X.

J.D. Vance

Trump’s right-hand puppet man makes his first appearance for the award as his stock in American politics continues to rise. Since his appointment as US Vice President, it’s fair to say his approach has been unconventional, but very active, wrangling Senate support for key policies and playing a key role in keeping the peace in Eastern Europe. If he can make a significant breakthrough regarding political policies and Trump allows him to take the credit, he could be a decent outside pick.

Kate Middleton

The nation’s favourite Princess. Kate Middleton has had quite the year, battling her own personal health battles and stirring the conversation about privacy and health for public figures. She’d be a very popular winner, and the future Queen looks a good price in terms of value. What she oozes in class, she lacks in controversy. Great for the monarchy, but there’s not enough noise around the good that she’s done this year. It would, however, be a timely feel-good winner, which is something we all could do with right about now.

Taylor Swift

Swifties around the world rejoice, as Taylor is back in the mix to win for the second time in three years. A cultural tour de force, if you will, has seen her Eras Tour break all kinds of records of revenue and feet through the door. Her ability to captivate and bring together a global audience is almost unrivalled these days, but for her to pick up a second award so soon after the first (2023) is going to take some doing.

Oasis

Well, we couldn’t not feature the world’s greatest living rock and roll band, could we? The band finally got back together as brothers Liam and Noel settled their differences, shook hands and paid off outstanding divorce settlements to once again go back to the top. The comeback tour is set to gross over £400 million over the next 12 months, and it’s been the feel-good story that we’d hoped it would. Given their lack of any sort of respect for the establishment, it’s going to be a stretch to see them get their bucket hats and parka coats on the front of TIME magazine anytime soon. But whatever happens, some might say they’ve made 2025 as they slide away on a big pile of cash. Maybe this was the master plan all along?

Who Votes for TIME Person of the Year?

A lot of people assume that this is voted for by the public, but that is not the case. The awards are handed out by TIME’s editorial board, led by its editor-in-chief. They might have the odd online poll pop up throughout the year, but the powers-that-be have the final say, and often, it’s quite controversial. Well, they do need to sell magazines at the end of the day. But that’s just us being cynical.

When Is the TIME Person of the Year Announced?

Early December 2025 is when TIME Person of the Year is announced. Generally, they run a tight ship over there, so there’s not much in the way of leaks before a headshot is printed in their December edition magazine.

Following that, the media hype is crazy. They’ll be on every TV and chat show, from the TODAY show to Loose Women. OK, maybe not the latter, but they join a list of illustrious and sometimes infamous winners, so it’s a good time to cash in on a bit of publicity.

TIME Person of the Year Winners During the Last Decade

Year Winner(s) Reason for Selection Closing Odds (Winner)
2024 Donald Trump Achieved a rare non-consecutive Presidency, reshaping U.S. politics 1/5 (odds-on favourite)
2023 Taylor Swift Record-shattering music superstar (Eras Tour, cultural icon) N/A (not listed; surprise)
2022 Volodymyr Zelenskyy and “The Spirit of Ukraine” Led Ukraine’s defiant stand against Russia’s invasion 2/7 (very short odds)
2021 Elon Musk World’s richest man, innovating in tech and space 8/1 (surprise winner)
2020 Joe Biden & Kamala Harris Elected President and Vice President, historic U.S. election 1/2 (odds-on favourite)
2019 Greta Thunberg Youth climate activist mobilising the global climate movement EVS (even odds)
2018 “The Guardians” (Journalists) Journalists facing persecution for reporting the truth 10/1 (outside shot)
2017 “The Silence Breakers” Voices that launched the #MeToo movement 5/2 (among top favourites)
2016 Donald Trump Elected U.S. President in a shocking upset 1/10 (heavy favourite)
2015 Angela Merkel Led Europe through debt and migrant crises 3/1 (favourite)

ThePuntersPage Final Say

The TIME Person of the Year odds are live, and 2025 is shaping up to be quite the contest. The two headline acts couldn’t be more different, with the current President of the United States going up against a technological concept in AI. But it’s not just a two-horse race, with the likes of Elon Musk, J.D. Vance and Jerome Powell all in the running. Whatever happens, this year will be as divisive as ever, and that’s why we love this betting market as much as we do.
