Thursday’s FA Cup Accumulator Tips

Sheffield United v Cardiff

Both Teams to Score

Both teams could probably do without this cup tie, with Sheffield United embroiled in a promotion scrap and Cardiff battling relegation in the Championship. It’s difficult to know exactly who wants to win this game more but based on recent matches it’s hard to trust either team to keep a clean sheet.

Centre back Harry Souttar has been ruled out for the rest of the season for Sheffield United which is a huge blow, and since that happened midway through their Boxing Day match, the Blades have conceded 6 goals in 4 games and look nowhere near as solid at the back.

Cardiff haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last 13 league games, while BTTS has landed in all of their last 4 contests and they have at least retained some offensive threat. Recent results against Watford, Coventry and Middlesbrough must be seen as a positive and maybe they can carry some momentum through into this cup game.

Everton v Peterborough

The pressure is on Sean Dyche at Everton with a lot of recent scrutiny on their poor results and in particular their lack of goals. The FA Cup will not be high on his list of priorities this season but Everton could do with some sort of morale boost here and at least a more convincing offensive performance.

The Toffees have failed to score in 8 of their last 10 matches but in the FA Cup they can release the shackles against League One opponents Peterborough. Dyche is likely to drop his normally rigid defensive system to silence the critics and even Everton should be good enough to score multiple goals against the worst defense in the third tier of English football.

This match probably means more to Peterborough, who are one of the most exciting teams to watch in the entire country. Their fixtures average an astounding 3.60 goals per game with 18 out of 24 contests in League One going over 2.5 goals. They can’t defend, but in Ricky-Jade Jones and Malik Mothersille, they carry plenty of attacking threat and are likely to come here and have a good go.

Whether they can achieve a ‘giant killing’ is a different matter but they are capable of contributing towards an over 2.5 goal line. With Everton likely to be more offensive than normal then this could be a rare occasion that one of their matches is entertaining for the neutral.

Fulham v Watford

Over 2.5 Goals

This could be the season where Fulham have a decent cup, Marco Silva’s men progressed to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup last season so have some recent cup pedigree. The Cottagers should take this competition quite seriously, especially as they are sitting comfortably in the Premier League table. There is also some extra spice to this fixture as Silva faces one of his former teams in Watford.

This should be an open game because Watford are quite an attack-minded team who usually score goals. All of their last 6 league games have ended with over 2.5 goals and BTTS landing, with their defence being far too leaky of late. That does not bode well against a Premier League side away from home.

Fulham have been involved in 3 2-2 draws in their last 5 games and rarely don’t get on the scoresheet. Over 2.5 goals looks like a good bet here, both teams might contribute, but the hosts have the firepower to cover the goal line on their own too.
