The Memorial Tournament Predictions – CopyBet
The PGA Tour returns to Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio, this week as the world’s best players compete at The Memorial Tournament.
Forty-five of the world’s top 50 players have confirmed their entry for Thursday’s opening day, including world number one Scottie Scheffler as he prepares to defend his crown.
Masters champion Rory McIlroy has already confirmed he will miss the event for the first time since 2017, but there are plenty of players who will feel they have what it takes to win this weekend.
Tip 1: Jack Nicklaus designed Muirfield Village in 1976, and his recent tweaks have once again made it vital for players to be accurate with their long irons and be able to scramble. Norway’s Viktor Hovland won his first PGA Tour title at this exact event in 2023 and he is starting to find his feet again.
Hovland ranks eighth on the PGA Tour within the Strokes Gained on Approach category, and he has been in fine form with his irons for months now.
His form at Muirfield Village is solid and he will arrive in Ohio having earned four top-30 finishes in his last five outings.
Tip 2: Austrian Sepp Straka is enjoying a stellar year on the PGA Tour with two wins to his name already this season.
Straka won The American Express and the Truist Championship this year and he will look to bounce back after missing the cut at the US PGA Championship.
At the start of the final round at this event in 2024, Straka had moved into second, but he failed to hang on and could not put any pressure on Scheffler.
Straka has been so consistent on tour this year and he has finished in the top 20 at Muirfield Village on three occasions in the past.
Tip 3: Like Hovland, Matt Fitzpatrick has got his mojo back in recent weeks and he could go close this weekend.
After a year in the wilderness, Fitzpatrick finished tied-eighth at the US PGA Championship last time out. The Sheffield golfer has gained strokes on Approach in four straight events and he has registered two top-nine finishes at Muirfield Village in the past.
At 40/1, he represents huge value in an event where he will expect to be competitive given his recent upturn in form.
