Saturday’s EFL Anytime Goalscorer Tips
Blackpool and Cambridge drew 4-4 earlier in the season in the reverse fixture. A similar scoreline here would have anytime goalscorer punters licking their lips.
Another 8-goal epic is, of course, highly unlikely. But, there’s still reason to get excited about opposing this leaky Cambridge side. A statement was released by the club at the beginning of the week – not because Cambridge are departing with manager Garry Monk but to throw their support behind him.
The reason Monk is under pressure is because Cambridge are having a woeful season. 17 points from 24 matches sees them 23rd in the league and they’ve conceded 43 goals in the process – only Shrewsbury and Peterborough have conceded more.
Cambridge’s form is dreadful. They have conceded 14 goals in their last 6 matches and lost their last 5.
The Blackpool weapon of choice to take on Cambridge with is inverting right winger Rob Apter.
Apter has 3 goals so far this season but has left a bit out on the pitch. His season xG is 4.09. He’s currently 9 goals shy of the 12 he managed for Tranmere in League Two last season but he can get closer to that tally on Saturday.
There’s only been 2 matches all season where Apter hasn’t taken a shot – one of those was the aforementioned 4-4 draw versus Saturday’s opposition but in his defence he was only on the pitch for 10 minutes of that game. His shot locations aren’t always primed for goalscoring but he should get plenty of opportunity to fire shots away v Cambridge.
Swindon have the worst defensive numbers in the division having conceded 41 goals this season at an average of 1.70 goals conceded per game. When they are the home team they concede on average 1.63 goals per game. It’s 19 matches since their last clean sheet and they’ve conceded in 9/11 home matches this season.
On Saturday’s Swindon defence will be further threatened – this time by one of the most in-form players in the EFL in Crewe’s Jack Lankester.
Lankester has scored 7 goals this season – 6 of them in his last 8 matches.
Since the start of November, Lankester is averaging a goal every 99 minutes of football. His shot numbers in matches since the start of November read 0-6-3-3-5-0-3-1-6. 41% of these shots were on target – a slightly higher percentage to his overall season number of 39%
Crewe have scored 7 goals in their last 2 matches, 3 against Carlisle and 4 against Bromley. With Lankester in red hot form and attractively priced it’d be foolish to not be on him.
