Saturday Tips at Musselburgh and Haydock – Dan James Racing
Waleefy has been very consistent with two wins, two seconds, and two thirds from just eight runs. A very dominant win at Doncaster over 7f and, although he went up 8lb, he ran well finishing second at Newbury bumping into a nice type who has won since.
His third after that was on soft ground, which I’m happy to forgive, and after a winter break, he can strike on reappearance with better ground forecast.
I know the yard were disappointed when Land Genie didn’t land the odds at Warwick, but the extra furlong didn’t suit, and he now steps back down to the 3m trip with a 1lb ease in the weights. Skelton delivered the horse very late that day and with no instant response, I’d expect this horse to be much closer to the pace here.
Skelton is fighting tooth and nail for the trainer championship, and this offers another good chance.
Jer Batt put up a very good effort when just beat on the line when last seen at Doncaster in October. Jer Batt hit the front that day and although just beaten, it was a very good run, and I really fancy this horse on reappearance here.
With a total of £50k prize money up for grabs, this is a nice season opener, and this horse is completely ground versatile. A mark of 91 looks within range and this horse goes well fresh having won off the back of break in the past.
