PSG v Liverpool

Kick Off: Wednesday 5th March at 20:00

Competition: Champions League

What TV Channel: TNT Sports 1
PSG welcome Liverpool to the Parc Des Princes following a comfortable progression to the round of 16, seeing off fellow Ligue 1 side Brest in a 10-0 victory over two legs. PSG have been impressive at points in the Champions League this season and enter this game having won their last 10 across all competitions.
Liverpool have recently strengthened their grip on the Premier League title, having registered important wins over Newcastle and Manchester City. Arne Slot’s side finished top of the league phase, losing just one of their eight games in the initial stage of the competition.
PSG v Liverpool Best Bet
Liverpool play with far more control under Arne Slot compared to the constant intensity of Jurgen Klopp’s approach, but one thing that Slot has retained from his predecessor is how quickly Liverpool look to win the ball back when they lose it in the final third.
This is best evidenced by the fact that 54 of the 87 fouls they’ve committed in the Champions League this season have been in the opposition’s half (62%), which is a statistic that puts Vitinha right in the crosshairs of Liverpool’s aggressive pressing approach in the final third.
Vitinha has won 10 fouls across his 10 appearances in the Champions League this season (1.14 per 90), a notable increase on the 0.60 fouls won per 90 he’s averaging in Ligue 1 this season. This increase is a result of the intensity of the Champions League, which sees Vitinha more regularly challenged than he is in the French top-flight.
Vitinha will be up against Dominik Szoboszlai, who embodies what Arne Slot wants from his side when they are without the ball. Szoboszlai is a pressing machine and has covered more ground than any other Liverpool player this season, so it’s no surprise that he’s averaging 1.65 fouls committed per 90 in the Premier League this campaign.

PSG v Liverpool Players to Watch
Ousmane Dembele
Dembele has been on a bit of a tear for PSG this season. Luis Enrique has unlocked what many thought to be an elite talent and has played him through the middle to great success this campaign. He’s scored in each of his last three appearances across all competitions and is averaging 2.76 shots on target per 90 across his 22 appearances in Ligue 1 this term.
He’s had 12 shots on target across his eight appearances in the Champions League this season (1.82 per 90) but his shot volume really stands out, he’s averaging 5.93 shots per 90 in Europe this campaign, which is an average that should see him get multiple opportunities to find the target here, especially given his recent form.
Mohamed Salah
Mohamed Salah’s recent run of form has been nothing short of sensational, the 32-year-old has registered a goal contribution in each of his last nine appearances across all competitions in a run that stretches all the way back to January. Salah has registered seven goal contributions across his seven appearances in the competition this campaign and can add to that sensational record, given his recent form.
Salah has registered 42 goal contributions across his 28 Premier League appearances this season, meaning that the Egyptian is averaging over one goal contribution per game in the Premier League this season.
