Strasbourg to win at Metz @ 5/4 with bet365
Strasbourg lost their last two games to finish seventh last season, earning a spot in the Conference League playoffs, where they will play Brondby, but three points shy of a place in the preliminary round of the Champions League.
Those with a working knowledge of the club will be aware that they are part of Chelsea’s wider group and they have again used that link to sign three of the Blues’ youngsters on loan and, like the Londoners, have splashed the cash.
Le Racing’s outlay has gone beyond €100m, over five times as much as opening opponents Metz, who beat Reims in the promotion playoffs to end their one-season spell in Ligue 2.
A semi-local derby against Strasbourg could fill the Stade Saint-Symphorien but Liam Rosenier’s side have looked sharp in pre-season and can claim an opening victory.

Sparta Rotterdam vs Utrecht – Utrecht to win @ 6/4
FC Utrecht have made a superb start to the season and look great value at odds-against to get the better of Sparta Rotterdam.
Ron Jans’ men finished fourth in the Eredivisie last term, four points adrift of the Netherlands’ traditional big three but seven points clear of the rest of the division, and their start to the 2025/26 campaign suggests they could be on for something similar.
Utrecht have played five matches, winning all four Europa League qualifying ties against FC Sheriff and Servette, while their Eredivisie opener resulted in a dominant 4-0 home win over Heracles.
Sparta Rotterdam, meanwhile, were humbled 6-1 by champions PSV last week and could struggle to repel opponents who suffered just one league defeat on their travels last season.

Nottingham Forest vs Brentford – Nottingham Forest to win at 23/20 with bet365
Nottingham Forest struggled for form in pre-season and failed to win any of their seven pre-season friendlies. However, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side kept five clean sheets over the summer and that bodes well for a home clash with Brentford.
The Bees have seen manager Thomas Frank join Tottenham, while Bryan Mbuemo, Christian Norgaard and Mark Flekken have left the club. Striker Yoane Wissa also wants out and won’t play against Forest and a home win looks a sensible play.
Brentford fans will be wondering where the goals are going to come from this season, and while Forest have work to do to find their rhythm, they could have been handed a tougher first assignment this season.
James Mason
Manchester United vs Arsenal – Arsenal to win @ 17/20 with bet365
Manchester United may have strengthened their attack heading into the new season but they are still short of quality in midfield and defence and a slick Arsenal side aiming for another title challenge can make the Red Devils pay.
Ruben Amorim’s side won just seven of their 19 league matches at Old Trafford last term and they may struggle to contain the Gunners, whose tally of 35 away points in the 2024/25 campaign was bettered by only champions Liverpool (38).
Having added Viktor Gyokeres and Noni Madueke to the ranks this summer, Arsenal have more strength in depth in the final third and they can start the season off with a victory over their fierce rivals.
Tom McGarry
Kilmarnock vs Dundee United – Kilmarnock to win @ 4/6 with bet365
Dundee United suffered a heart-breaking exit from the Conference League during the week after they were beaten on penalties by Rapid Vienna and it will be difficult for them to lift themselves for this Scottish League Cup tie away to Kilmarnock less than 72 hours later.
Killie are yet to lose this season and have an impressive recent record against Sunday’s visitors, as they are unbeaten in the last six encounters between the two sides and have not lost to Dundee United on home soil at Rugby Park since May 2016.
This looks like the ideal time for Kilmarnock to be facing Dundee United and they can secure their progress in the cup with a victory in regulation time.
Aaron Rogan
Auxerre vs Lorient – Auxerre to win at 7/5 with bet365
Auxerre built a brilliant platform for survival with a fast start at home last season. The club won five of their first six home matches before holding PSG to a 0-0 draw. That helped them get into the European mix, before they faded after safety was long secured.
Auxerre should be looking for more of the same in their second season back at this level and they’re bound to be targeting the likes of newly-promoted Lorient. The visitors have struggled to get players through the door this summer, so back Auxerre to secure another key home win.
