EFL pundit Gab Sutton picks his best bets for this midweek EFL acca coming from Tuesday’s action in League One & League Two

Cambridge vs Wrexham – Wrexham to win

Cambridge United’s four-year stay in League One could be coming to an end after Neil Harris’ side could only manage a 1-1 draw at home to Northampton at the weekend, leaving the U’s 11 points adrift of safety with seven to play.

Preparations for the summer have already begun, with newly appointed Director of Football Mark Bonner, a former manager returning in a different capacity, overseeing recruitment plans with a big rebuild ahead.

So, there may be some motivation for home players to pull off a surprise result against the automatic promotion contenders, but more in terms of contracts for next year than perhaps the collective cause.

Visitors Wrexham, meanwhile, are threatening to make second spot their own after five wins to nil in their last six games, with goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo in sumptuous form, homegrown Max Cleworth starring at the back, and Sam Smith and Jay Rodriguez giving them some stardust up top.

Stockport vs Stevenage – Stockport to win

Tue 01 Apr, 19:45

BET NOW

The form of Wrexham hasn’t given Stockport much of a sniff of automatic promotion, with just two wins in five for Dave Challinor’s side, for whom the 1-0 loss at the Racecourse last weekend was probably the kicker.

Nonetheless, County are making enormous strides, much like those of the athletic Isaac Olaofe, both literally and figuratively, with the forward scoring five goals in his last 15 league games.

Plus, defeats for Huddersfield and Bolton means the Hatters can open a real chasm between themselves and the Play-Off chasing pack, with a six-point gap to the final top six spot, and a seven-point gap to 7th.

Stevenage’s 2-0 loss at Leyton Orient on Thursday meant Alex Revell’s side won’t be in that conversation, but Boro still have one of the league’s better defensive records and can take solid foundations into 2025-26.

Morecambe vs Cheltenham – Morecambe to win

Tue 01 Apr, 19:45

BET NOW

Morecambe kept their survival hopes alive on Saturday, with a 1-0 victory over Swindon, and finally have an in-form striker – for the first time this season – in the industrious Lee Angol, with the frontman having bagged four goals in his last five games.

Angol’s finishing has given the Shrimps the ruthlessness in front of goal they’ve been crying out for, with Derek Adams’ side having so often found themselves on the wrong side of fine margins – it’s 14 league defeats by a one-goal margin for the Lancashire outfit.

They’ve been competitive throughout their campaign and produced another resolute showing on Saturday.

The result hasn’t reduced the points-gap to 22nd, with in-form Tranmere winning, but it has shortened the gap to nine points to Accrington Stanley and Harrogate – whom Morecambe host on the final day – so victory on Tuesday night would be guaranteed to close the gap, with Simon Weaver’s side hosting Tranmere.
