County Championship Cricket Betting Tips
Both divisions look incredibly well-balanced this season. You could make cases for a lot of the teams to have a good run, but there are one or two that have really caught our eye, which we’ve included below in our 2026 County Championship betting tips.
County Championship Division 1 Betting Tips
We’ve had good success in the past picking the winner from Division 1, and while the league looks as competitive as it has for a long time, there are two teams that stand out as good value for the 2026 season.
Surrey to Win Division 1
Surrey drew too many games last season. They only lost once – the same as eventual winners Nottinghamshire – but had a staggering eight draws in their 14 games. It was the failure to kill off teams when ahead that cost them their fourth title in as many years.
Coming into this new season, they’re still the team to beat. The depth of the squad is incredible and packed with international stars such as Rory Burns, Dom Sibley, Ben Foakes, Gus Atkinson, Sam Curran and Jordan Clark. It’s the Galacticos of domestic cricket.
While they might lose one or two over the season to internationals, it’s not a crippling number that some counties will suffer. They’ve also got the squad to cope, and when you’ve got the best XI and the best squad, it’s a formidable combination.
Warwickshire Each-Way
Warwickshire only lost two games last season and looked a decent outfit for the most part. They’ve made some good signings for 2026, including Jordan Thompson from Yorkshire, Keith Barker from Hampshire, Nathan Gilchrist from Kent and Beau Webster as their overseas pick for the first half of the season.
Their County Championship winner odds of 12/1 look generous, but to add a little security, we don’t mind stretching this to an each-way bet (paying top three spots).
They need to become a little more ruthless to turn some of those nine draws into wins, but those new signings should help with that. If they do, they might not be far away this season and look like the best-of-the-rest from the chasing pack.
County Championship Division 2 Betting Tips
The County Championship Divisions 2 betting odds tell us all we need to know about how tight this race will be. Any one of five or six of these counties could easily be in the mix come September, and it looks like there’s a little more value in the outright betting market here as a result.
Lancashire to Win Division 2
Lancashire will be bitterly disappointed at their performance in Division 2 last season, finishing fifth and never really looking like mounting a promotion charge. But 2026 looks brighter, and we’ve been impressed with the business they’ve done over the winter.
Coming into the team are Ajeet Singh Dale from Gloucestershire and Paul Coughlin from Durham. Marcus Harris is set to feature as their overseas player, with Mitch Perry coming in until the middle of May.
The reality is that they’ve already got a strong domestic core, including James Anderson, Tom Bailey, Keaton Jennings and Luke Wells. That’s a proper team.
It’s a close pick between them and Durham this season, but their County Championship Division 2 odds of 7/2 look a little more enticing than Durham at 57/17 with the best cricket betting apps, so the Red Roses get the nod.
Kent Each-Way
If you’re looking for a little more meat on the bone, then look no further than Kent. They really struggled last season, but it wasn’t through lack of trying.
Bringing in the likes of Matt Milnes from Yorkshire and Sam Northeast from Glamorgan are shrewd signings offering some much-needed experience to a very young Kent side. They also have a solid overseas rotation between Keith Dudgeon, Glenton Stuurman and Senuran Muthusamy as well.
We’re getting 12/1 here, which looks a big price when this league is potentially wide open for that third and final spot needed in the market. If you want a little extra security, check out the latest free bets and use that money towards this bet.
Popular County Championship Cricket Betting Markets
Given that this is the pinnacle of domestic red ball cricket in the UK, the bookies tend to loosen the straps a little and provide a strong range of betting markets to choose from. Here are 10 of the best, available on most leading online betting sites.
This market is where you bet on a team to win either Division 1 or 2.
Pick which team will be promoted or relegated from either league.
This is essentially a place bet where you pick a team to finish anywhere in the top two or three places, depending on the market. An extension of this is also each-way betting.
Bet on the team to finish bottom of either league. Sometimes known as the wooden spoon.
The match result is linked to individual games where you can back home win, away win or draw. Interestingly, in 2025, the most common result across the two leagues was the draw.
Markets that are purely focused on whether the game will be a draw or not.
Bet on the player who will score the most runs for a specific team.
Bet on the player who will take the most wickets in a specific team.
Bet on a player who will score the most runs in the division.
Bet on the player who will take the most wickets in the division.

Additional County Championship Cricket Insights
Our goal is not just to bring you the best County Championship odds, tips and bookies; we want to give you the tools to form your own selections. To do this, we’ve curated a series of insights, sports betting strategies and stats that you can use, looking forward to the season ahead, which should allow you to find value where most punters overlook.
Key Teams to Watch
From the public favourites to the dark horses, who’ll be in the spotlight throughout the season? Take a look at our picks.
Nottinghamshire
A lot of people will be looking to see how Nottinghamshire fare this season after 2025’s heroics. They left it late last year, but got over the line on the final day, and we’re betting they won’t be too far away this year as well.
Most of the squad remains the same, which is important, and only Benny Howell is noted so far as coming into the squad to play in the Blast. Surrey will, once again, be the team to beat, but with a settled side, the knowledge that they can win it, and the quality throughout, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Notts go well again.
Essex
It was a mixed season for Essex last time out. They finished sixth, but were in the hunt for much of their Division 1 campaign and ultimately lacked the quality needed to win their ninth Div 1 title.
Zaman Akhter and Mitchell Killeen come into the squad, adding depth in the bowling department, with Nick Browne announcing his retirement last season. Simon Harmer and Wiaan Mulder should be strong additions as well, and if you’re looking for an outside pick away from the usual suspects, Essex would be it.
Sussex
Sussex is our final pick as one to watch, but for the wrong reasons. In February 2026, the ECB announced the club would be subject to tighter financial controls following overspending in the two previous seasons.
As a result, they will be capped on how much they can spend on wages and incur a points deduction. It’s not how a side that played well for most of 2025 will want to head into a new campaign, and it could see quite a few leave before a ball is bowled. If you’re looking for teams that might go down next season, then it could be a long road ahead for Sussex.
County Championship Cricket Trends & Stats
Surrey is, by far, the most successful team in the County Championship, having won four of the last 10, and are the only side, apart from Essex (2), to have multiple titles in that period. It’s notable that the top run scorer over the last two years hasn’t, in fact, come from the team that’s won the league, so don’t hedge all your bets on the favourites.
The draw is now by far the most prominent result. Since the league switched to include the Kookaburra ball, 37% of overs in the opening two rounds of the season were spin, compared to 17% the season before, with spinners taking 135 more wickets in that period. The trade-off was that all but one of those 19 games were a draw, and in one round, every single game was a draw.
