British Grand Prix FAQs
British Grand Prix Betting Odds
We’re faster than a Max Verstappen overtake through Maggots and Becketts with our British Grand Prix betting odds this year, so we’re still waiting on them being released. Usually, this will follow the previous race, which for 2025 is the Australian Grand Prix. Once the bookies have them available for your F1 wagers, we will update this section immediately.
British Grand Prix Favourites for 2025
2025 is shaping up to be an epic season. McLaren, Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes all have legitimate chances of winning most races, which, as racing fans, we have been craving following the dominance of Red Bull.
As part of our British Grand Prix betting tips, we’ve done a quick preview on the favourites for the race to see who might have the edge in old Blighty.
Oz-some Oscar: McLaren’s Aussie Leading the Charge
It feels like Piastri has come of age in 2025. Sure, he’s got the car under him, but he’s not leading the championship by chance, and you could argue he has the mantle over his more experienced teammate, Lando Norris. He came fourth in 2024 and will be targeting at least a podium finish this time around.
Land(o) of Hope and Glory: Norris Chasing Silverstone Dream
Norris has become a cult-hero in F1. That cheeky grin and mischievous relationship he has with his peers have propelled the Brit’s status with the fans. But don’t be fooled into thinking that Lando is anything other than a stone-cold racer. He’s hot on the heels of his teammate Piastri and will be looking to turn his third-place finish in 2024 into a win, with the latest British GP outright winner odds suggesting he will be right in the mix this year.
Max Power: Verstappen Charging for British GP Glory
The Red Bull’s don’t have the pace they had in 2024. In fact, they are way off it. What that’s done is shine the light on just how brilliant a driver Verstappen is. His win at Imola will go down as one of his best, plotting his way through a race that he had no right to win, given his car (or should we say, the cars he was up against). He’s been fun to watch, and you almost get the feeling he’s enjoying the scrap this season more than those where he’s dominated. His Silverstone betting odds will be longer than the two McLaren’s, so he could be the value bet this weekend.
British Grand Prix Betting Tips
Last season’s British Grand Prix was an epic. Lewis Hamilton coming out on top at his home race was unexpected, but a massive win for the fans.
The term “drivers track” gets used more times than a set of fresh slicks, but we’re going to double down on the cliché for the week and state it’s exactly that. Long straights, tight hairpins, super-fast sweeping corners and the potential for the weather to get involved create the perfect F1 melting pot. From a betting perspective, the excitement is palpable, and we’ve got our latest British Grand Prix betting tips below.
Lewis Hamilton to Make the Podium
Call us hopeful romantics, but we’re backing Lewis to get his first podium (excluding sprint races) since joining the Scuderia. It’s fair to say that it’s been a mixed bag so far for the seven-time world champion, and after the euphoria of winning the sprint in China, it’s been a grind, to say the least. The flexi-wing clampdown that comes into place for Spain will help Ferrari, and we think this will have them fighting for those podiums. Lewis will be an outsider this week, but this is a track he’s won nine times at, so even if the car isn’t up to scratch, no one knows this place better, and a podium finish is more than in reach.

Popular British Grand Prix Betting Markets
One of the best things about UK-based bookies is that when we host international sporting events, like the British Grand Prix, they tend to roll out the red carpet. This means things like boosted odds, feature promotions and an increased range of betting markets. We’re going to tackle the latter in this section to showcase what you can bet on and how each of the markets works.
The outright winner is simply the winner of the race. This will be where most of the bets for the weekend are taken, and given how tight the driver’s championship is this season, it is hotly contested. Take a look at our British Grand Prix betting tips above to see who to bet on.
Pole position is the fastest car from qualifying on the Saturday, and it starts in first position in the race. You can bet on who you think this will be without having to work out which driver will win the race.
A fun side bet is the driver who sets the fastest lap of the race. Some bookies will have live betting on this as well as pre-race markets. For the 2025 season, they have removed the extra point for the fastest lap, so it’s not as big a deal as it once was. It’s best to target cars that pit late in the race as they will be low on fuel and the track will be at maximum grip levels.
The podium is the top three finishing positions of the race. All you need to do is pick a driver to finish on the podium for your bet to win. It’s worth noting that you get paid the same regardless of first, second or third and is the same as a place bet in horse racing or golf.
British Grand Prix Live Betting
It doesn’t get much better than British GP live betting. Being able to soak in the race and predict what’s going to happen is not only exhilarating but can yield incredible value from a betting perspective.
Most of the major bookies will offer this, and odds will update in real time with each lap. We’ve a couple of tips that we want to highlight for the best approach to live betting at Silverstone, which we’ve highlighted below.
Monitor Team Strategies and Pit Stops
Each team must make at least one pit stop and use at least two sets of tyre compounds (soft, medium or hard). Strategy plays a significant role in finishing positions, and if you can predict when teams will stop and what this means for their race, you can utilise this in the betting markets. For example, pitting under a safety car can reduce pit stops by up to 15 seconds, which is huge. Drivers who can time their stop when the safety car is deployed gain a considerable advantage over those who don’t, and you can react to the markets on the back of this.
Check the Weather Forecast
It may be the middle of the summer, but it’s the UK, and the chances there will be rain are pretty high. Wet weather can cause carnage, especially if teams start on slicks and have to choose when to switch to intermediates or wets. You can access some pretty sophisticated weather radars online these days, which will show you exactly when rain might hit the track. Those who pit earlier tend to have an advantage and will fly up the leaderboard.
British Grand Prix Sites with Live Streaming
Sky TV has all the rights for the F1 calendar in the UK, so if you haven’t got access, then your options for watching live are limited. If you don’t want to subscribe, NOW TV offers day passes, allowing you to make a one-off payment to watch the race. Unfortunately, none of the best livestreaming betting sites will feature any live races, but the likes of bet365 have cool interactive in-play betting sections that allow you to track the drivers and view the latest lap times, which is the next best thing.
What Is the Format for the British Grand Prix
The British Grand Prix odds go live around a week or two before the start of the race, but the action only kicks off on the Friday, even though there’s media build-up throughout the week. Here’s a look at the timeline for Grand Prix weekend.
Two free practice sessions take place on Friday. You’ve FP1 in the morning and FP2 in the afternoon. This allows teams to become familiar with the track and test setups they intend to use for qualifying and the race. Don’t sleep on practice sessions! This is one of the best ways to get a feel for who might have strong race pace over the weekend, so you can get into those betting markets early.
The final practice session (FP3) runs Saturday morning before qualifying takes place in the afternoon. Qualifying is split into three sessions: Q1, where five cars will be eliminated, Q2, with five more going out, and Q3, which will include the final 10 cars. This is a great time to look for British Grand Prix pole position odds if you’re betting on that market.
Race day. The British GP runs over 52 laps of the 5.891km Silverstone circuit. It typically lasts about 90 minutes, but if there is inclement weather or multiple safety cars/red flags, it will take longer.
British Grand Prix Betting Stats
The British GP is without doubt one of the highlights of the season. It’s fast, fluid, always throws up drama and is one of the seemingly few tracks that promotes overtakes.
Backing up your bets with stats is imperative, and we’ve included a few nuggets below that should aid your decision on who to back this weekend.
-
Tyre wear is considerable at Silverstone. High-speed corners like Maggots, Becketts and Copse put immense strain on the tyres, which is why a two-stop strategy is almost always quicker than a one-stop.
-
Silverstone has an 89% chance of seeing a safety car. High speeds and unpredictable weather play a significant role in this, allowing cars to make substantial gains from middle-position starting spots on the grid. Great for outsiders to win the race or a podium finish.
-
The race averages 35 overtakes, one of the highest in the F1. The two key DRS zones are Brooklands and Stowe (toward the end of the Hanger Straight), which allow drivers the opportunity to make up ground. Again, a podium finish from 6th to 10th on the starting grid is not out of the question.
British Grand Prix Key Stats
British Grand Prix Betting Strategy
Our British GP betting strategy starts with the practice sessions on Friday. We’re looking to see which cars have good race pace and what tyre setups they are running. You don’t necessarily need to sit through the whole session, but use a stats-based site, like Pitwall, to get the summary of lap times and tyres. Most teams will run longer stints in the race on medium and hard compounds, so any team or driver that was notably quick on these compounds are going on the list.
The next thing we want to do is take into account the weather. If it’s dry with little to no chance of rain, you can use the practice data with a lot of confidence. If it’s wet or there is a chance of showers, there’s more opportunity for an upset. Hamilton and Verstappen are masters at their craft in the rain, so regardless of dry speed, these are two drivers we target in any (and all) wet conditions.

Memorable Moments from the British Grand Prix
Being British, we are probably biased here, but the British Grand Prix is easily one of the best races in the calendar. There have been some amazing moments over the years, but we’ve picked our top three from a long list below.
1991 – Mansell Gives Senna a Lift
After Nigel Mansell’s epic race win in 1991, Senna’s McLaren famously ran out of fuel once the chequered flag had dropped. During his cool-down lap, Mansell pulled over, picked Senna up, and drove him back to the pits with the Brazilian perched on his side pod while the Brit waved to the crowd.
2008 – Hamilton’s Wet Masterclass
The English weather played a prominent role in 2008 as Lewis Hamilton cruised to victory by 68 seconds, lapping all but two cars in the process. In a race where fellow competitors were spinning and crashing, Hamilton’s incredible performance to keep his car between the white lines will go down as one of the finest wet race victories in F1.
2021 – The Copse Clash
Title rivals Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen collided on the opening lap of the 2021 British Grand Prix. Verstappen came off the worse of the two, hitting the tyre barrier with a staggering 51G of impact, thankfully without serious injury. Hamilton received a penalty for his role in the collision but still fought back to win in one of the most electrifying races ever to be held at Silverstone.
ThePuntersPage Final Say
From an F1 betting perspective, it doesn’t get any better than Silverstone. The track is super quick and promotes overtaking (rare in 2025 F1), which in turn, creates drama. From a betting perspective, this creates value, and if you’re new here, that’s what we’re all about at TPP. Take the time to asses teams and drivers in the practice sessions and take advantage of early British Grand Prix odds. Then, sit back and enjoy the show.
British Grand Prix FAQs
The favourites for the British Grand Prix 2025 are Oscar Piastri, Lando Norris, Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, George Russell, Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Anonelli and Alex Albon.
Some bookies will have boosted odds and special bet builders for the British Grand Prix. You may even find sites that offer free bets or risk-free bets, given the popularity of the race.
The outright winner is the most popular betting market. Others include a podium finish, fastest lap, pole position, first driver to retire and to finish top 2/6.
The British Grand Prix weekend kicks off with FP1 on Friday, 4th July. Saturday, 5th July, is the qualifying day, and the race takes place on Sunday, 6th July.
The race starts at 15:00 UK time. Qualifying on Saturday also starts at 15:00, with three practice sessions held on Friday and Saturday morning.
Lewis Hamilton won the British Grand Prix in 2024. It was a landmark victory for the seven-time world champion as he won his 9th British Grand Prix, setting the record for the most wins at any single track.
