Evans may not be in the greatest of form coming into this event but this represents a drop in class. He’s been on the receiving end of some dreadful draws the past few months.
Despite his recent form, Evans retains his ability given he reached the final of Players Championship 16 in the summer beating both Rob Cross and Luke Humphries.
In his 3 previous appearances in this event Mathers has exited at the first hurdle.
Mathers was a Tour Card Holder back in 2022, during that campaign he had a win rate of just 39%.
Evans reached the 3rd round last year, claiming the scalp of Nathan Aspinall along the way. He won the 180 battle 4-1 in that particular contest, not to mention he hit 4 maximums without reply at this stage of the competition against Simon Adams 12 months ago.
Evans is also among the top 100 players when it comes to 180s scored this calendar year, having delivered exactly 180 maximums thus far.”
