Jamal Murray is the man to watch ahead of Saturday night’s decisive Game 7 encounter between the Clippers and the Nuggets. Murray scored 43 points in the last meeting between the two in Denver, while he had a 40-point game against the Clippers in a Game 7 back in 2020.
Denver rely heavily on their star duo of Murray and Jokic, while opposition teams tend to focus on preventing the pair from creating for others. We saw that in last year’s Game 7 defeat at home to the Minnesota Timberwolves, when Murray scored a team high 35 points. He and Jokic combined for 69 of Denver’s 90 points, with the other six players in the rotation managing just 21 as point guard Murray finished with just three assists.
The Clippers have a solid defensive rotation, so they could take a similar approach. There’s also the worry that they’ll struggle to contain Murray, a man who has averaged at least 26 points per game in two of his last three completed playoff campaigns.
Given his playoff track record and the tendency to look towards stars in big moments, Murray’s points line seems low here. Look to him at an increased price to score 25 points, while this looks like a tempting bet to ladder up to 30 points, which is priced at 4/1.
