Fresh off the back of a win at the Cheltenham Festival off a mark of 135, this horse reverts to the small obstacles here to exploit his lower hurdles rating of 125. He is tough and hardy and if his exertions at Cheltenham haven’t left their mark, he’s sure to go close here. He was last seen over hurdles at Thurles in January when a very good second to Samui where he was held up out the back and wasn’t given a hard time of things.

Obviously, that was just a prep for Cheltenham but back here now with the season coming to a close, there won’t be many excuses and I’m expecting a big run.

This mare has made a more than acceptable start to life over fences this season and has some very nice form even over hurdles behind a few very smart types. She jumps well and is a strong traveller in her races and I’m happy to draw a line through her run at Downpatrick last time. She must just not have handled the track which has been the case for many a horse in the past. That run was by far the worst of her career over obstacles and I’m willing to forgive her for that.

With a return to form here I can see her outrunning her odds and she has more than enough ability to land a pot like this off her mark if things fall right for her on the day. She rates a decent each way bet at what should be a big price.

BRAVE FORTUNE

This is a horse from a more point to point orientated yard but when they hold onto one in these colours, they are normally smart individuals. This horse has some good form in the book from last season and though it took him until his second season as a novice hurdler to break his maiden, he did so impressively in Clonmel before going on to win a novice hurdle at Thurles. He returned from a couple of months break last time at Naas when he was very disappointing but that was on horrible ground, and he looks a horse that appreciates a sounder surface.

A lot will depend on how much rain comes through Thursday night into Friday and how well the watered ground at Fairyhouse takes it but, he’s a horse on a workable mark who’s sure to be overlooked in the market and at a big price with plenty extra places on offer he’s one I will be having a few quid on.
