Saturday’s FA Cup Player Foul Tips
Kamada is expected to be drafted in as part of a rotated Crystal Palace side with the Eagles looking to manage their squad and Oliver Glasner eyeing up a strong finish to the campaign after a period of solid form following a slow start.
Kamada’s transition to the Premier League hasn’t been as smooth as he would have hoped, he’s only started 10 games in the Premier League for Crystal Palace this season but when he has featured, his foul numbers have stood out. Kamada has committed 20 fouls across his 23 Premier League appearances this season (1.87 per 90). He’s struggled a little with the increased speed and intensity of the Premier League compared with his previous experiences in Germany and Italy but should appear a lot more composed here against inferior opposition.
Kamada is likely to be up against George Saville who regularly posts high foul involvement numbers. Saville has won 43 fouls across his 34 Championship appearances this season (1.40 per 90) and should be on the end of at least one lazy challenge by Kamada who is very busy in the middle of the park.
Mateta has been brilliant under Oliver Glasner for Crystal Palace for the last year, only Erling Haaland has scored more goals than the French centre forward in the last calendar year which is a record that highlights just how effective he’s been in the Premier League. His imposing frame can see him be unlucky in getting the referee’s decision when it comes to aerial duels in particular with his battle against Japhet Tanganga one to keep an eye on here.
Mateta has committed 23 fouls across his 27 Premier League appearances this season, 25 of these have been starts taking his average to 0.97 fouls committed per 90. This indicates that we’re looking for a reason for Mateta to have a marginal rise in his average and the impressive Japhet Tanganga could present the perfect matchup to see that rise.
Tanganga has won 34 fouls across his 31 Championship appearances this season (1.10 per 90), this is amongst the highest fouls won totals for centre backs in the second division this season. This record includes Tanganga being fouled at least once in each of his last five appearances for Millwall, suggesting that Mateta could be in for a real battle against the centre back who has been really impressive at points this season.
Cunha has won 2+ fouls in each of his last five appearances for Wolves in the Premier League. The wanderers’ talisman is incredibly efficient when it comes to winning fouls making this showdown against the Premier League’s top ranked team when it comes to fouls committed a perfect one for Cunha to maintain this high fouls won record.
Cunha has won 58 fouls across his 26 Premier League appearances this season (2.43 per 90) which is a record that shows that he wins fouls at a consistent rate across a decent sample size and this isn’t just a recent increase in his foul numbers.
In the recent Premier League meeting between these sides, Bournemouth committed 17 fouls – a high total even for the Cherries who are averaging 13.7 fouls committed per game in the Premier League this season. Cunha was fouled twice in the game and contested 16 duels, these numbers suggest that Cunha will continue to be hacked down here by an aggressive Bournemouth midfield.
Nelson Semedo is averaging 1.69 fouls committed per 90 in the Premier League for Wolves this season, only Joao Gomes is averaging more fouls committed per 90 for Wolves in the Premier League this campaign (2.3 per 90).
Semedo has been lining up as a wing back in Vitor Pereira’s setup which has naturally seen his foul output increase as a result of contending with multiple players in the wide areas of the pitch. Semedo committed a foul and contested nine duels in the recent meeting between these sides just a week ago. There were 26 fouls exchanged between the sides in that meeting which is something that we can expect to continue here given that these sides make up the top two sides in the Premier League when it comes to fouls committed.
Semedo will be up against Antoine Semenyo who has won 29 fouls across his 26 Premier League appearances this season (1.14 per 90). Semedo was also in the crosshairs in the meeting between these sides back in November, the 31 year old committed two fouls and was shown a yellow card facing up against Marcus Tavernier on that occasion.
Plymouth committed nine fouls in their victory over Liverpool in the last round of the FA Cup with Gyabi committing two of these fouls. The 21 year old contested 11 duels in the game and is set to be at the heart of more challenges and duels in this clash against Manchester City.
It’s hard to know exactly what set up and personnel Pep Guardiola will go with considering the fact that the Manchester City boss has so many options at his disposal following the January transfer window but James McAtee has featured regularly in these types of games so we can expect him to line up against Gyabi here. McAtee was fouled once in Manchester City’s 8-0 win over Salford in their last home game in the FA Cup and scored a hat trick so he’ll be a threat for Gyabi to track in this encounter.
