PDC World Darts Championship Day 12 Accumulator Tips
Over 5.5 Sets in Ricky Evans v Robert Owen
Odds: 1.62
Ricky Evans and Robert Owen get the action underway at the Alexandra Palace on Sunday night. Evans reached round 3 after getting the better of Gordon Mathers before edging a round 2 thriller with Dave Chisnall. As for Owen, he has reached uncharted territory at the World Darts Championships thanks to wins over Niels Zonneveld and Gabriel Clemens.
While Evans is heavily favoured here, this match could be a lot closer than the pre-match odds suggest. As such, a more appealing angle of attack is to side with over 5.5 sets.
‘Rapid’ was pushed all the way in each of his round 1 and 2 victories respectively. In fact, both of those games required deciding sets, and there is plenty of scope for this third round tie to follow suit.
‘Stack Attack’ has already shown that he should not be underestimated. The Welshman was the outsider going into each of his opening two matches at this year’s showpiece, yet he won both games by a two-set margin. It’s also worth noting that Owen averaged a whopping 98.97 when overcoming Clemens, further suggesting that he can make life difficult for Evans.
Gerwyn Price to Win v Jonny Clayton
Odds: 1.53
Welsh duo Jonny Clayton and Gerwyn Price will come up against each other in round 4 at the World Darts Championships on Sunday night. Clayton has seen off both Mickey Mansell and Daryl Gurney, while compatriot Price has got the better of both Keane Barry and Joe Cullen.
It’s Price who heads into this game as the firm favourite and he has to be fancied against his close friend Clayton. While ‘The Iceman’ made heavy weather of his third round success against Cullen, he did impress during the opening exchanges of the game by racing into a 3-0 lead. What’s more, Price racked up 13 180s and landed 31 140s for good measure.
Clayton, on the other hand, needed a slice of good fortune to get over the line against both Mansell and Gurney. ‘The Ferret’ averaged below 93 in both of those respective victories and hit a combined total of 10 180s across those two ties. Thus, Clayton will have to up his game if he is to send Price packing.
On top of that, Price’s recent dominance in this fixture could give him the psychological edge – ‘The Iceman’ has won 9 of the last 10 head-to-head meetings between the pair.
Luke Humphries to Win & Highest Checkout v Peter Wright
Odds: 1.67
Luke Humphries will look to take another step towards retaining his World Darts Championship when he takes on Peter Wright on Sunday night.’ Cool Hand’ has comfortably dispatched both Thibault Tricole and Nick Kenny to take his place in round four.
‘Snakebite’ started strong, beating Wesley Plaisier, and followed up with an impressive win against Jermaine Wattimena. While that pair of victories will have boosted Wright’s confidence, dethroning Humphries looks like a bridge too far.
With the world number one the overwhelming favourite for the win here, instead take him to triumph alongside hitting the highest checkout of the game. Humphries delivered the highest finish of the match during both his round 2 and 3 victories respectively. He took out a stunning 160 against Tricole before cleaning up a 145 against Kenny.
Humphries’ habit for hitting big checkouts was also on show at the Ally Pally last year, as he produced 100+ finishes in 4 of his 6 victories on his way to the title.
While Wright has exceeded expectations making it this far, he failed to hit the highest checkout of the game in each of his two victories over the aforementioned Plaisier and Wattimena.
