The opening Super Sunday of the season is headlined by Manchester United’s clash with Arsenal, following a summer of heavy spending for both clubs. United are aiming to end their malaise, while the Gunners will hope this is finally their year.
That results in some unusually high stakes for a season opener. A low-scoring encounter is expected, but I’ve dug into the shots, fouls, and saves numbers to pick out a 112/1 Ultimate Bet Builder which doesn’t require a goal to be scored.
Man United vs Arsenal Ultimate Bet Builder
Declan Rice 1+ shot on target
While Arsenal have been crying out for a striker, Martin Zubimendi’s arrival should transform their slow build-up play. The Spaniard’s arrival should unleash Declan Rice as more of an attacking force, so we can get out ahead of that and take the value on him to make an impact in the final third.
Rice’s eye-catching display against Real Madrid showed what he was capable of, while he recorded a shot on target in each of his final three Premier League appearances. He scored in two of those games, so Mikel Arteta has every reason to get him into advanced positions.
Jurrien Timber to be carded
Timber led the way for the Gunners in terms of bookings last season. Of his seven cautions in the league, five of them came away from the Emirates.
Timber was booked nine times across the league and Champions League, while he’s up against wing-back Patrick Dorgu, a player who tends to draw a lot of fouls. The Dutchman tends to break up play with fouls, which always puts him at risk of a card.
David Raya to make 4+ saves
Manchester United’s summer business has caused a bit of a divide, but there’s little doubt the Red Devils are now packed with players who will shoot at will.
Matheus Cunha and Bruno Fernandes ranked fourth and eighth for most shots last term. Benjamin Sesko averaged 2.5 shots per 90, while Bryan Mbeumo averaged 2.08. All four players are happy to take an effort from distance, which could lead to some routine stops for Raya.
The Arsenal keeper made five saves in this fixture last term. United’s summer business suggests they’ll be more aggressive going forward, so back Raya to be kept busy.
Viktor Gyokeres to commit 2+ fouls
Gyokeres will be under pressure to deliver goals, but his physical presence up front will offer Arsenal a new dimension. That could see the Swede called for a few fouls early on, particularly away from home.
Gyokeres committed at least one foul in each of his six Champions League starts last season, while he made multiple fouls in three of his first four matches. His final season with Coventry saw him commit a total of 61 fouls, to he could face a harsh whistle as he makes his Premier League debut.
Martin Zubimendi to commit 2+ fouls
United’s summer business has left them overloaded with players who long to be a number 10. With Zubimendi expected to sit at the base of Arsenal’s midfield, he’s going to be tracking plenty of runs by the likes of Mbeumo, Cunha, and Fernandes.
He picked up 12 bookings as a holding midfielder for Sociedad in 2022/23, so it’s easy to see Zubimendi getting into trouble. He’ll need to adapt to the intensity of the Premier League too, so he’s good value to make a couple of fouls.
